The preschool program at the Pingree Center serves children ages 2 through 5. Each classroom has 10 students and is supported by 5 staff members and thus offers a 2:1 student to staff ratio. This enriched staffing ratio allows for intensive and individualized programming, high rates of attention and reinforcement, and trial by trial data collection to monitor progress.
The day is broken into 30 minute segments with a variety of individual, small and large group activities that address each child’s individualized goals. Groups and activities range from structured 2:1 learning sessions to typical preschool activities such as center time, circle time, song and story, snack, art and fine motor groups, and recess to promote learning in natural contexts and generalization of skills.
The preschool program at the Pingree Center is a full day program. The program operates on a 10 month calendar beginning at the end of August through the end of June with days off or breaks for holiday observation. An optional summer program is offered during the month of July for current students.
Monday – Thursday
8:00 – 2:45 p.m.
Referrals to the preschool program are parent driven. New referrals/ intakes are placed on a list for consideration for placement. Families are contacted in the order in which the referral was received. An evaluation is then scheduled to determine if services are appropriate for the child. Once the initial referral has been made, the family is eligible to participate in all parent education nights.
