Utilizing scientific data, educational strategy, and community for a fortified scholastic experience.
Carmen B. Pingree Autism Center of Learning is Utah’s premier program for the treatment of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We are proud to provide nationally recognized cutting-edge, evidence-based treatment. To implement autism therapy, we use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is the international gold-standard of care. At the Pingree Center, we have certified ABA clinicians in order for your child to have an enriched and effective experience. The Carmen B. Pingree Center for Autism Treatment has Board Certified Behavioral Analysts (BCBA) that are trained to provide and supervise behavioral analysis.
We use structured learning environments, motivational strategies, and the collection and monitoring of data to make sure our children are making progress. The use of intensive ABA therapy leads to better lifelong outcomes in the areas of academics, cognitive abilities, social skills, and daily living skills. Community integration and functional adaptive skills are a vital component of the learning activities that are incorporated with the youth.
Our staff develops individualized plans for each child to help them get the support they need based on their abilities, interests, strengths, and any areas requiring support. We use strategies specific to the child and what motivates them to encourage their progress. We also use iPads for children to play activities from Rethink that reinforce the learning programs in their individualized learning plans. Rethink Autism, the web-based curriculum we use at the Pingree Center, offers training, resources, and learning programs for the children, teachers, and parents. Rethink is based on the principles of ABA, which is the treatment we provide at the Pingree Center and what is most supported by the research. We find that incorporating fun, developmentally appropriate activities with the structured treatment we provide leads to more progress and better results for our children.
Our center for autism treatment delivers real results that can transform the life of your child. Families have experienced life-changing special moments with their children like:
We use evidence-based practices included in the National Autism Center’s National Standard Report such as discrete trial training, reinforcement, incidental teaching/naturalistic teaching strategies, task analysis, visual supports, schedules, prompting, modeling, time delay, video modeling and social narratives to teach children new socially significant behaviors, skills, and concepts. Established practices are in correlation with our scientific findings.
We have some of the most prominent researchers in the field of autism in Utah on our advisory council. We rely on the expertise of this group from the University of Utah to guide our program and ensure we are always providing the most effective programming for the children we serve. Dr. William McMahon from the Department of Psychiatry is the chair of our advisory council. Other members include Dr. William R. Jenson from the Educational Psychology Department and Dr. Rob O’Neill from the Special Education Department.
